Because of the contrast between Chapter Fifteen and the rest of John's gospel, some scholars have suggested this was a later addition. But an event within the chapter parallels an event at the start of the gospel. Peter plunged into the water to go and greet Jesus who was on the shore. At the start of the gospel at the time of his baptism at the Jordan river, Jesus is also immersesed in water.
